Rishabh Pant to Lead Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025

New Delhi : Lucknow Super Giants have appointed Rishabh Pant as their new captain for the 2025 IPL season, as the franchise looks to make an impact in the upcoming edition. Pant, who previously played at No. 3 for India during the T20 World Cup, might also be one of the possible opening options for Lucknow, given the lack of designated openers in the squad. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman has emphasized that while there is a temptation to open the innings in IPL 2025, he is not inclined to do so just because it is a popular suggestion.

Pant’s decision comes after reflecting on the squad’s structure and the availability of other openers. While the possibility of him taking the opening spot exists, he remains committed to batting in a position where he can contribute most effectively. Speaking about the situation, Pant admitted that it was tempting to open, but clarified that he would not be swayed by external noise or suggestions unless it was the best option for the team.

The 25-year-old’s experience in the middle order has proven effective, particularly during his comeback season in 2024 when he captained the Delhi Capitals. Despite not being part of India’s T20 squad at present, Pant’s IPL form stands out. In the previous season, he averaged 40.5 and struck at an impressive rate of 155.40, showcasing his ability to make a significant impact in the middle order.

As Lucknow Super Giants embark on their IPL 2025 campaign with Pant at the helm, the team looks to build on his leadership and experience. His ability to adapt to different roles and his consistency with the bat will play a crucial part in the team’s success, whether he takes the opening slot or continues his middle-order duties. Pant’s leadership and his willingness to assess the team’s needs rather than follow external expectations will be pivotal for the Super Giants as they seek to make a strong challenge in IPL 2025.
