New Delhi– In a significant interaction that underscores India’s focus on modernization and sustainability, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, met with probationers of three critical government services—Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES), Military Engineer Services (MES), and Central Water Engineering Service (CWES)—at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 23, 2025.
During her address, the President highlighted the vital role these young officers will play in shaping the future of the nation. Stressing the importance of integrating technology with governance, President Murmu encouraged the IDES probationers to harness cutting-edge tools like Artificial Intelligence (AI), drone-based surveys, satellite imaging, and blockchain technology to streamline land and property management across cantonments. “These are no longer futuristic ideas,” she said. “They are essential components of modern governance that you must master.”
The President further urged the IDES officers to promote environmental sustainability. From reducing waste and ensuring water conservation to adopting renewable energy in cantonment areas, she emphasized the need for an eco-conscious approach in administrative duties. “Green infrastructure is not a luxury; it’s a responsibility,” she added.
Addressing the Military Engineer Services officers, President Murmu placed special emphasis on responsible construction practices in defense infrastructure. She advised the young MES officers to focus on minimizing the carbon footprint by integrating renewable energy technologies into building designs and operations. Applauding their alignment with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) vision, she noted the importance of sourcing indigenous materials and utilizing technologies developed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
“You are not just building structures—you are building the foundation of a stronger, more self-reliant India,” she remarked, encouraging the officers to lead by example in responsible military engineering.
In her interaction with probationers of the Central Water Engineering Service, the President underscored the increasing importance of sustainable water resource management, especially in light of climate change. She called on the officers to focus on innovative water conservation strategies, clean water accessibility, and the development of climate-resilient infrastructure. “Clean water is not just a public utility—it’s the backbone of public health, agricultural strength, and economic growth,” President Murmu said.
She further emphasized that CWES officers must become torchbearers of engineering excellence in water infrastructure, helping the country combat both natural calamities like floods and droughts and long-term water scarcity challenges.
The President’s address served as both inspiration and a roadmap for these young probationers, who represent the future of India’s governance, defense construction, and water resource management. Her vision clearly placed sustainability, technology adoption, and national pride at the heart of every developmental effort.
These future administrators, engineers, and planners are expected to play a pivotal role in realizing India’s 2047 vision, marking 100 years of independence with a modern, self-reliant, and environmentally conscious nation.
