Op Sindoor was essential and carefully executed, not a declaration of war: Tharoor

New Delhi, May 28 – In a strong statement highlighting India’s measured yet firm stance on terrorism, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor defended ‘Operation Sindoor’, calling it a “necessary and precisely executed mission,” while making it clear that it was “not a declaration of war.”

Tharoor, who is leading an all-party parliamentary delegation currently visiting Panama, reiterated India’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and the importance of calibrated responses to acts of violence targeting civilians.

Reflecting on the tragic story of 26 women who lost their husbands in the attack, Tharoor shared, “These women had the Sindoor — a sacred symbol of marriage — wiped away by terrorists. Some of them pleaded with the attackers to kill them too, only to be told to return and recount the horror.”

In an emotional address, he drew a symbolic comparison: “The red Sindoor on our women’s foreheads now matches the blood of those responsible. We heard their anguish, and India responded with pinpoint precision — striking only the perpetrators.”

Tharoor clarified that the targeted strikes on terrorist camps were conducted with surgical accuracy and restraint. “India does not seek war. We’re not a warmongering nation. Our actions were limited to neutralizing terror hideouts. Not a single military installation, government office, or civilian residence in Pakistan was touched,” he explained.

He further elaborated that the attacks were carried out late at night — between 1:05 and 1:30 AM — to avoid civilian casualties, focusing specifically on Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed compounds. “The strikes were designed to minimize collateral damage while delivering a clear message: terrorism will not be tolerated.”

Reinforcing the spirit of the operation, Tharoor stated, “India acted with responsibility, precision, and moral clarity. We wanted to ensure justice — not provoke escalation.”
