J&K : In a tragic road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, three people lost their lives, and ten others sustained injuries when a tempo skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. The mishap occurred in the Gangot area of Mahore tehsil earlier today.
According to officials, the vehicle was carrying passengers along a mountainous road when the driver reportedly lost control, leading to the fatal plunge. The impact of the accident was severe, causing three passengers to die on the spot. Local residents, police personnel, and emergency response teams immediately rushed to the scene to assist in rescue operations.
SSP Reasi, Paramvir Singh, confirmed the casualties and said that efforts were underway to provide medical aid to the injured. “Ten people were rescued and taken to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries. Among them, four critically injured individuals have been referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for specialized treatment,” he stated.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident happened suddenly, giving passengers little time to react. Many were trapped in the wreckage until rescuers managed to pull them out. Local volunteers played a crucial role in assisting authorities in the rescue efforts.
Officials suspect that over-speeding or poor road conditions may have contributed to the accident. The hilly terrain of Reasi and narrow roads often pose significant challenges for drivers, especially during unpredictable weather conditions. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir are unfortunately common, especially in remote and hilly areas where road infrastructure remains a challenge. Lack of proper safety measures, reckless driving, and difficult terrains contribute to the high rate of fatal crashes in the region.
Following the accident, local residents have urged the administration to take stricter measures to ensure road safety in the region. Many have called for better maintenance of roads, installation of safety barriers, and stricter regulations for passenger vehicles traveling in mountainous areas.
Authorities have assured that necessary assistance is being provided to the victims and their families. The administration has also announced compensation for the families of the deceased and medical support for the injured.
