Chennai Police Launches India’s First ZAD Campaign

Chennai, August 6, 2024 : The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has initiated India’s first comprehensive 20-day road safety awareness campaign, named ZAD (Zero Accident Day), to promote responsible driving and reduce road accidents. The campaign, inaugurated by Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R. Sudhakar, is designed to enhance road safety and reduce travel time within the city’s limits.

The GCTP’s approach, “Zero is Good,” emphasizes zero violations, zero fines, and zero accidents. The ZAD campaign, running until August 26, will feature daily events focused on educating the public about road safety and traffic rule adherence. The campaign aims to engage various stakeholders, including schools, MTC, IT firms, colleges, auto/cab drivers, e-commerce employees, hospital staff, and residential associations.

The initiative follows several recent traffic management improvements, including new U-turns, one-way streets, updated speed limits, and school safety zones, which have already led to a reduction in fatal accidents within the city.
