Supreme Court has directed the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusecs of surplus water on Friday to help alleviate the water shortage in Delhi. This decision comes as a critical measure to ensure that the capital city receives sufficient water to meet the needs of its residents during this period of scarcity.
The apex court noted that the Himachal Pradesh government has agreed to release the surplus water. Furthermore, it instructed the Haryana government to facilitate the passage of this water through the Wazirabad barrage, ensuring a smooth and efficient transfer.
The court emphasized the need for coordination by asking the Himachal Pradesh government to provide prior intimation to Haryana before releasing the water. This coordination is essential to manage the water flow and ensure it reaches Delhi as intended.
Additionally, the Supreme Court warned the Delhi government against the wastage of water, highlighting the importance of judicious use of the resource, especially during times of shortage.
