Yogi Adityanath Leads Women’s Protest March Over Stalled Reservation Bill

Public demonstration highlights political push for greater female representation in Parliament

Lucknow, April 21, 2026: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday spearheaded a large scale march titled Jan Aakrosh Mahila Padyatra in response to the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill to secure passage in the Lok Sabha. The event saw participation from numerous women supporters and party workers who voiced their concerns over the delay in ensuring legislative representation for women.

The march was organized to draw attention to the long pending demand for reserving seats for women in legislative bodies. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that empowering women through political representation remains a crucial step toward inclusive governance. He stated that the inability to pass the bill reflects a missed opportunity to strengthen democratic participation.

Participants in the padyatra expressed disappointment over the outcome in Parliament and called for renewed efforts to bring the legislation back for consideration. The demonstration also aimed to mobilize public opinion and build pressure for future action on the issue.

The Women’s Reservation Bill has been a subject of political debate for years, with supporters arguing that it would significantly improve gender balance in decision making bodies. The latest development has once again brought the matter into national focus, with political leaders and organizations expected to intensify discussions in the coming days.
