Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, today. During his visit, he will participate in the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan, where he will release the 17th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, amounting to over ₹20,000 crore. This installment will be disbursed to approximately 9.26 crore beneficiary farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer.
The PM-KISAN scheme, which started in 2019, aims to provide financial support to farmers, offering ₹6,000 annually in three equal installments. So far, over 11 crore eligible farmer families have received benefits exceeding ₹3.04 lakh crore under this initiative.
In addition to the financial disbursement, Prime Minister Modi will grant certificates to more than 30,000 women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) as Krishi Sakhis. This certification aligns with the “Lakhpati Didi” Program, aimed at empowering women in agriculture.
The Prime Minister will witness the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat and perform pooja and darshan at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. After spending the night in his constituency, he will depart for Bihar tomorrow.
This visit marks Prime Minister Modi’s first trip to Varanasi after being sworn in for his third term. His first official act was signing the authorization for the release of the 17th installment of PM-KISAN, emphasizing the government’s commitment to farmer welfare.
