New Delhi, February 12 – India has outlined a roadmap to accelerate hydropower projects in Nepal to boost electricity production in the neighboring country. With India’s support, Nepal will advance hydropower projects to enhance energy security and development. The move follows a meeting between Union Minister for Energy, Housing, and Urban Development, Manohar Lal, and Nepal’s Energy Minister, Deepak Khadka in New Delhi where the focus was on strengthening hydropower collaboration.
Union Minister Manohar Lal and Nepal’s Energy Minister discussed ways to expedite hydropower projects and India’s role in Nepal’s development. India has been actively involved in several hydropower projects in Nepal, contributing to the country’s energy self-sufficiency. The meeting also identified key challenges in implementation and explored possible solutions for their swift resolution.
During the discussion, Minister Manohar Lal reaffirmed India’s commitment to enhancing energy cooperation between the two nations. He reviewed ongoing hydropower projects and emphasized that initiatives led by Indian organizations in Nepal have fostered a strong energy partnership between the two countries. He underlined the need to expand technical and financial cooperation ensuring a sustainable environment.
Nepal’s Energy Minister Deepak Khadka, appreciated India’s approach. He expressed confidence that a new chapter of hydropower cooperation would unfold between the two nations. Khadka also praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a “Developed India” (Viksit Bharat).
The Hydropower Projects would help Meet Nepal’s Domestic Energy Needs and create business opportunities for Indian companies. The collaboration has been recognized as a mutually beneficial partnership, promoting shared economic and developmental interests for both countries.
