New Delhi, November 6: Chief National Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Dr. K.K. Khandelwal said that on November 7, 2024, Bharat Scouts and Guides will complete 75 years, and a grand Walkathon themed ” Sashakt Yuva Viksit Bharat ” will be organized in New Delhi to celebrate this milestone. He mentioned that around one thousand children will participate in this Walkathon in New Delhi.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, he said that the Walkathon “Run for BSG” will be flagged off at India Gate at 7:00 AM (reporting time 5:45 AM) by Mr. Gaurav Gautam, Minister of State for Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship, Sports, Law, and Legislative Affairs, Haryana. The event supports the Mission LiFE initiative promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on sustainability, fitness, and youth empowerment. Participants from all over the country will gather for this memorable event, and BSG’s state, district, and local associations will organize similar Walkathons nationwide to promote unity in the movement.

He said that Bharat Scouts and Guides is the only organization worldwide where members take three oaths. Presently, 6.5 million members are receiving training through the organization, and around 45 million people have been associated with it so far. In Bharat Scouts and Guides, members pledge to fulfill their duties toward God and the country, which includes serving humanity, caring for the sick, maintaining nature’s balance, protecting animals and birds, and conserving plants and trees. Emphasizing the importance of the pledge to the nation, he stated that Scouts are taught to live for their country, maintain public order, foster harmony, and always assist others, noting that helping others is never in vain, as it becomes a natural instinct.

Dr. Khandelwal explained that Scouts are trained to be good citizens by following nine rules, which include credibility, discipline, courage, and humility etc. He stressed that the foundation of Scouting is to prepare good citizens. Skills such as life management, ethical duties, and support with an awareness of practical realities are imparted. He added that Bharat Scouts and Guides must now progress to tackle new challenges, aligning with the New Education Policy. The organization has developed new curriculam for students from classes one to twelve and for post-secondary education to empower the next generation.
Bharat Scouts and Guides must adapt to today’s youth – Khandelwal
He emphasized the need for Bharat Scouts and Guides to evolve in line with today’s youth, who are technology-driven, with knowledge of IT and AI. To engage actively, the organization needs to work innovatively. Discussing the Jamboree, he mentioned that it is a gathering system that fosters teamwork, where 25,000 to 30,000 youth live together in a tented area for 7 to 10 days to develop team spirit and showcase their skills. The next Jamboree will be held from January 28 to February 3, 2025, in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, featuring various activities, including a tribal fair, with an estimated cost of 300 million rupees incurred by the Tamil Nadu government. Five thousand international participants are expected.

Scouting and Guiding activities in pre-Independence India (1907-1947) were organized by various associations affiliated with the international Scouting and Guiding councils Following India’s Independence, the Government of India’s Ministry of Education recognized these movements as valuable educational programs and initiated efforts to unify associations such as the Boy Scouts of India, Hindustan Scout Association, Girl Guides Association, and Seva Samiti Under the leadership of Dr. Tarachand, then Secretary of Education, these efforts culminated in the formation of The Bharat Scouts and Guides as the unified organization for scouting and guiding activities in India

As Bharat Scouts and Guides enters its Diamond Jubilee Year on November 7, 2024, a year long celebration will commence, culminating in the 75th Anniversary in 2025 This milestone is a tribute to an organization that has profoundly impacted young Indians since 1950. The official launch of the Diamond Jubilee Year will be celebrated on November 7, 2024, with events designed to honor BSG’s rich legacy and achievements.
Celebration Objectives: Commemorate the accomplishments of The Bharat Scouts and Guides over 75 years, Recognize and honor contributions of past and present members, Promote Scouting and Guiding values across communities, Inspire new generations to join and support the movement, Enhance the BSG brand and explore partnerships for extended reach and celebration (Government of India, media partners, etc).
Diamond Jubilee Year Events and Programs:
Under the guidance of Hon’ble Chief National Commissioner, we are launching 75 Special Programs including a World Guide Jamboree, National Jamboree, Regional Mini Jamborees, All-India Motorcycle Rally, and the issuance of commemorative stamps and coins Events will also feature sapling plantations, blood donation camps, workshops on climate change, conferences, cultural showcases, and a Youth Parliament. This Diamond Jubilee Year promises to be a transformative journey for BSG and a renewed commitment to nurture responsible and capable citizens.
