India and Australia Hold 6th Maritime Security Dialogue in Canberra

New Delhi, August 13, 2024:   India and Australia convened their 6th Maritime Security Dialogue in Canberra today, aiming to bolster maritime security and foster global well-being.

The Indian delegation led by Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary for Disarmament & International Security Affairs at the Ministry of External Affairs, engaged with the Australian team, including Sarah Storey, First Assistant Secretary of South Asia & Central Asia at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Bernard Philip, First Assistant Secretary for International Policy at the Department of Defence.

The discussions addressed critical issues such as maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region, maritime domain awareness, and coordination for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). Areas of cooperation included Search and Rescue (SAR), pollution response, the blue economy, and Port State control. Both sides also explored future collaboration on the maritime ecology pillar of the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI). The next Maritime Security Dialogue is set to be hosted in New Delhi at a date to be mutually agreed upon.
