Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, Russia has given in to India’s demand that Indian citizens employed as support workers in the Russian military be released as soon as possible and sent home. According to Mr. Kwatra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought up the matter of the early release of Indian citizens who were tricked into joining the Russian Army.
It has been discovered that Mr. Modi brought up the subject informally with Russian President Vladimir Putin over supper at the latter’s dacha, or rural residence. The Foreign Secretary stated that efforts will be made by both parties to return the Indians home as quickly as possible. According to Mr. Kwatra, India expected the proportion of its citizens serving in the Russian military to be around 35 to 50, of which 10 have already been returned.
