New Delhi, May 6, 2026: President of India Droupadi Murmu accorded a ceremonial welcome to President of Vietnam To Lam at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, formally marking the beginning of the Vietnamese leader’s maiden State Visit to India and underscoring the strengthening diplomatic and strategic relationship between the two nations.

President To Lam was received with full state honours at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflecting the importance India attaches to its comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam. The visit comes at a significant time as both countries commemorate a decade of elevated strategic cooperation and seek to expand collaboration across defence, trade, regional security, and technological sectors.
Prior to his arrival in New Delhi, the Vietnamese President began his India visit in Gaya, Bihar, where he paid respects at the Mahabodhi Temple, highlighting the shared civilizational and Buddhist heritage that continues to strengthen cultural ties between India and Vietnam.
During the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President To Lam are expected to hold comprehensive talks covering bilateral cooperation as well as key regional and global developments, with discussions likely to focus on economic expansion, maritime security, defence collaboration, and emerging strategic opportunities in the Indo Pacific region.
