New Delhi, November 4: India will mark 150 years of the iconic national song Vande Mataram with a series of week-long celebrations beginning November 7 and continuing till November 14. The song, penned by renowned writer Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, continues to symbolize India’s spirit of unity and patriotism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Mann Ki Baat address on October 26, urged citizens to actively participate in the celebrations, calling Vande Mataram “a timeless anthem of national pride.” The Ministry of Culture has outlined a nationwide program featuring school events, community sing-alongs, and cultural performances across multiple states, including Odisha, Assam, and Maharashtra.
Beyond India’s borders, Indian embassies and missions in countries such as Zambia, Lebanon, Qatar, and Canada are planning parallel events to engage the Indian diaspora and highlight the song’s enduring global resonance.
The commemorative week aims to honor the emotional and historical significance of Vande Mataram, which inspired countless freedom fighters during India’s struggle for independence and continues to embody the ideals of courage, sacrifice, and devotion to the motherland.
