UP Govt Expands Forensic Training Drive to Strengthen Crime Investigation

State plans phased training of 500 experts to improve evidence handling and modern policing methods

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched an extensive training programme aimed at enhancing the scientific capabilities of its police force by preparing a dedicated pool of forensic specialists.

Initiated under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the initiative focuses on equipping officers with advanced investigative skills to ensure more accurate and efficient crime-solving.

The programme, being conducted at the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science in Lucknow, is designed to train 500 experts in five stages. Officials confirmed that around 300 personnel have already completed their training, while the remaining batches are scheduled in the coming weeks.

A key aspect of the initiative is its multiplier effect. Once trained, these specialists will return to their respective districts and commissionerates, where they will pass on their knowledge to other police personnel.

This cascading model is expected to build a strong network of trained officers across the state, improving the overall quality of investigations.

The training covers a wide range of subjects, including crime scene management, preservation of digital evidence, cyber forensics, and scientific analysis. Officers are also being trained in proper evidence collection and handling to ensure that investigations are backed by reliable forensic data.

Under the supervision of senior officials, trained experts will conduct workshops for personnel ranging from constables to inspectors. This will help standardise investigation practices and bring consistency in handling crime scenes across Uttar Pradesh.

According to institute officials, three batches have already been completed. The fourth phase is set to begin later this month, followed by the final round, after which all 500 experts will be trained and deployed across the state’s 75 districts.

The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen law enforcement by integrating scientific methods into routine policing.
