Trump Explains Why JD Vance Was Evacuated First During WHCD Shooting

US President says he delayed his own exit to assess situation as chaos unfolded at high-profile event

Washington DC- US President Donald Trump has revealed why Vice President JD Vance was evacuated before him during the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Speaking in an interview with Norah O’Donnell on the TV programme 60 Minutes, Trump said the delay in his evacuation was partly due to his own decision to observe the situation as it unfolded.

According to Trump, security personnel acted swiftly to remove the vice president within seconds of the gunfire, while his own evacuation took slightly longer. He explained that he initially resisted immediate removal, wanting to understand what was happening inside the venue.

“I wanted to see what was going on,” Trump said, adding that he may have inadvertently slowed down the response of security agents by asking them to wait briefly.

As the seriousness of the situation became clearer, Secret Service agents instructed Trump and others, including the First Lady, to get down and move out of the area for safety. He complied, describing how he was asked to go to the floor as part of the evacuation protocol.

The incident occurred at a hotel in Washington, where the annual event was being held. Authorities later identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, who allegedly breached security and opened fire, injuring a law enforcement officer. The officer’s injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.

The shooting triggered panic at the venue, prompting immediate evacuation of top government officials and attendees. Security agencies are continuing to investigate the breach and response measures.
