Mumbai: The investigation into the firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Mumbai residence has intensified with the arrest of a 15th accused, as the Mumbai Crime Branch continues to widen its probe into the alleged conspiracy behind the attack.
Police said the latest arrest was made in Agra, where the 22-year-old suspect was traced after reportedly remaining on the run for weeks. Investigators allege the accused played a significant role in the planning phase of the attack, including conducting surveillance of Shetty’s residence and encouraging others involved in carrying out the shooting.
According to officials, the suspect is also believed to have been present during the incident, when multiple rounds were fired outside the filmmaker’s home in Juhu in the early hours of February 1. The attack, police claim, was linked to a broader plot allegedly designed to spread fear within the film industry.
The arrest was reportedly carried out with assistance from the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force, after which the accused was brought to Mumbai on transit remand and produced before a special court. He has since been remanded to police custody as investigators continue gathering evidence.
With the latest development, authorities say 15 suspects have now been apprehended in the case, including one of the alleged shooters and several others accused of involvement in planning or facilitating the attack. Investigators are still pursuing key wanted accused believed to be central to the alleged conspiracy.
Police have indicated the case is likely to move toward a chargesheet soon under provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, suggesting the investigation has entered a more advanced stage.
The firing incident had raised concerns over security for prominent figures in the entertainment industry and drew attention due to alleged links to organised crime networks. With major accused still absconding, the case remains active as authorities continue efforts to trace those yet to be arrested.
