Hyderabad, May 9: A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister and senior BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar, following allegations made by a 17-year-old girl in Hyderabad. The complaint has triggered a police investigation, with authorities examining claims from both parties.
According to officials, the minor’s complaint alleges inappropriate conduct and harassment, prompting the registration of a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, which deals with offences against children. The case is currently being investigated by local police, and statements from those involved are being recorded as part of standard procedure.
In a swift counter-development, Bandi Bhagirath has also filed a counter First Information Report (FIR), accusing the complainant’s side of attempting to extort Rs.5 crore from him. He has alleged that the accusations are not genuine and are part of a planned effort to pressure and blackmail him financially.
The counter complaint claims that he was subjected to threats and coercion linked to monetary demands, which he has strongly denied complying with. Police have confirmed that both FIRs are now part of the ongoing investigation, and evidence from both sides is being examined.
Authorities have not made any final conclusions, and officials stated that the matter is at a preliminary stage. Statements from witnesses and digital or documentary evidence, if any, will play a key role in determining the direction of the case.
The development has attracted political attention due to the involvement of a senior political leader’s family member, though no political party has officially commented on the investigation so far.
Police have assured that the investigation will be conducted in a fair and impartial manner, following due legal process. Further action will depend on the findings as the case progresses.
