New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold crucial discussions with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, in New Delhi this afternoon. The high-level talks aim to bolster the long-standing ties between India and Qatar, focusing on trade, investment, energy cooperation, and emerging technologies.
The Amir of Qatar arrived in New Delhi yesterday on a two-day official visit, accompanied by a delegation of senior officials, ministers, and prominent business leaders. Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Modi personally received Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani at the airport, underscoring the importance India places on its relationship with Qatar.
This morning, the Amir was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several Union Ministers were present at the event, reflecting the deep diplomatic and economic ties shared by the two nations.
India and Qatar have developed a robust economic partnership over the years, with bilateral trade spanning key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, technology, and manufacturing. Qatar, one of India’s leading suppliers of liquefied natural gas (LNG), plays a vital role in India’s energy security. At the same time, Indian firms have expanded their footprint in Qatar, contributing to its rapidly growing economy.
A significant highlight of the Amir’s visit was the India-Qatar Joint Business Forum, attended by Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani. During the forum, two key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, further enhancing economic collaboration between the two nations.
While details of the MoUs are yet to be disclosed, they are expected to facilitate increased investments, particularly in technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and infrastructure development. These agreements align with India’s vision of fostering global partnerships in cutting-edge sectors.
Addressing the media after the forum, Piyush Goyal emphasized India’s historical ties with Qatar and the immense potential for expanding cooperation. He highlighted India’s commitment to leveraging emerging technologies, AI, and digital transformation in its economic relations.
As the talks progress, India and Qatar are expected to explore new avenues of collaboration, strengthening their partnership in the rapidly evolving global economy.
