Dr. Sant Ram Deswal Honoured with Padma Shri Award 2025 for Contribution to Literature and Education

New Delhi/Sonipat, 2025 – Dr. Sant Ram Deswal has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award 2025 in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of Literature and Education. The honour was presented during the grand Investiture Ceremony held at the Ganatantra Mandap of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The award was bestowed upon him by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, in the presence of Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and other senior cabinet ministers. Their presence added grandeur to the occasion and underscored the national significance of the event.

Dr. Deswal is a highly respected figure in the realm of Hindi and Haryanvi folk literature. With a literary career spanning over five decades, he has authored more than two dozen books across various genres, including literary essays, poetry, memoirs, travelogues, biographies, and short stories. A passionate advocate for education and cultural preservation, Dr. Deswal has played a vital role in the promotion of the Haryanvi language and folklore. Even after his retirement, he continues to work actively as a full-time writer, journalist, and social worker from his residence in Sonipat.

The ceremony was also attended by senior government officials, fellow Padma awardees, and their families. Dr. Deswal’s award not only honours his individual achievements but also highlights the richness of regional literature and culture. In his acceptance, he dedicated the Padma Shri to the people of Haryana, reflecting his deep connection with his roots.

Throughout his career, Dr. Deswal has received numerous accolades from the Haryana Sahitya Akademi, including the Mahakavi Surdas Lifetime Literary Achievement Award in 2018 and the Jankavi Mehr Singh Samman in 2014. His books Lok Alok (2005) and Ankahe Dard (2009) have both received Best Book Awards. In addition to these, he has been honoured with several other prestigious recognitions such as Haryana’s Best Journalism Award, the Babu Balmukund Gupta Literary Award, Lok Shiromani Award, Rashtra Kinkar Samman, Hadi-e-Haryana Samman, Sonipat Ratna Samman, and the Best Teacher Award, among many others.

Expressing his heartfelt gratitude, Dr. Deswal thanked the Government of India and acknowledged the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of Power and Urban Development Manohar Lal, Chief Minister of Haryana Nayab Singh Saini, and the members of the Padma Awards selection committee for this national recognition. His life and work remain a shining example of dedication to literature, culture, and public service.
