NEW DELHI, 18 JUNE: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated ‘Soma – The Ayurvedic Kitchen’ on Wednesday, highlighting the growing popularity of millet-based kitchens and advocating a return to India’s cultural roots for improved public health. At the event, Gupta praised the rising trend of health-conscious food outlets in the national capital and encouraged citizens to embrace millets as part of their everyday diet.

“Many such healthy kitchens are now opening across Delhi. One of them is in my assembly constituency, where all dishes are millet-based—from pav bhaji and burgers to soups and South Indian delicacies. I’ve tasted them myself, and they’re both delicious and healthy,” said the Chief Minister. She added that millet-based alternatives to traditional foods are a powerful tool to combat lifestyle diseases and promote well-being.

The Chief Minister also underscored the significance of yoga and alternative medicine as key elements of India’s rich cultural heritage. “Millets, yoga, and alternative medicine are all part of our ancient practices. If we incorporate these into our daily lives, we can build a healthier society and a stronger nation,” she said. Extending greetings ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21, Gupta remarked, “I send my best wishes to everyone on Yoga Day.”

Gupta also shared a personal note on the upcoming Yoga Day event at Yamuna Bank. “I have a deep connection with the Yamuna River. Just looking at it reminds me of our responsibility to keep it clean,” she stated.

Switching to civic concerns, Gupta addressed the issue of monsoon-related waterlogging in Delhi. She assured the public that the government has taken proactive measures to avoid major flooding during the rains. “We’re checking all drains for blockages, ensuring connectivity, and acting promptly wherever problems arise. I’m relieved that the Minto Bridge area, often affected by waterlogging, remained clear this time,” she said.

Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that detailed plans are being drawn up to tackle dengue in the city. “We are making comprehensive preparations to address the dengue threat this season,” she affirmed.

The inauguration of Soma – The Ayurvedic Kitchen aligns with the Delhi government’s broader focus on health, sustainability, and holistic living. By encouraging millet consumption, traditional wellness practices, and environmental responsibility, the Chief Minister reinforced the need for community-wide participation in building a healthier future for Delhi.
