Thimphu, Bhutan March 23, 2024– Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, alongside H.E. Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, commemorated the grand opening of the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu. This state-of-the-art medical facility, a testament to the collaborative efforts between India and Bhutan, signifies a significant milestone in enhancing healthcare services in the region.
Constructed with the generous assistance of the Government of India, the hospital’s development unfolded in two phases. The initial phase, completed in 2019 at a cost of Rs. 22 Crores, laid the foundation for this groundbreaking initiative. Subsequently, phase two, a crucial component of Bhutan’s 12th Five Year Plan, saw completion at a cost of Rs. 119 Crores, culminating in the realization of this monumental healthcare institution.
The Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital promises to elevate the standards of maternal and pediatric care in Bhutan. Boasting cutting-edge facilities across various specialties including Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Anesthesiology, Operation Theatre, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Pediatric Intensive Care, this establishment is poised to become a beacon of hope for countless families.
