Muscat, Feb 17, 2025 : External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during his visit to Oman on Sunday for the 8th Indian Ocean Conference, engaged in extensive discussions with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, reviewing the comprehensive bilateral relationship between the two nations. Expressing his gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for hosting the prestigious conference and for their unwavering support in fostering stronger India-Oman ties, EAM highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation in sectors of mutual interest, according to an official statement.
In a significant gesture, Jaishankar, alongside Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, unveiled a specially designed logo to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. As both countries gear up to celebrate this milestone in 2025, the logo serves as a powerful symbol of their enduring partnership, rooted in shared history, cultural connections, and vibrant people-to-people ties. Adding to the cultural dimension of the visit, EAM, along with his Omani counterpart, launched the book ‘Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman’. Published by the Indian Embassy in Muscat, the book delves into the rich history of the Indian diaspora in Oman and the centuries-old bonds that continue to shape the warm bilateral relationship.
During the Indian Ocean Conference, Jaishankar delivered the keynote address at the inaugural session, reaffirming India’s commitment to enhancing regional cooperation and ensuring a stable, secure, and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
On the sidelines of the conference, the External Affairs Minister held a series of bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers from Brunei, Bangladesh, Iran, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius, and Nepal. These discussions covered critical regional and global issues, reflecting India’s dedication to deepening its engagement with Indian Ocean countries. EAM’s visit to Oman not only underscored the strength of the India-Oman relationship but also set the stage for expanding bilateral and regional cooperation in the years to come. Taking to social media platform X, Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, stating: “Delighted to meet FM @badralbusaidi of Oman this morning. Appreciate his personal efforts in successfully hosting the 8th Indian Ocean Conference.
