‘Kesari Chapter 2’ Release Date Confirmed: Akshay Kumar Returns with a Historic Saga

New Delhi : Akshay Kumar and Ananya Panday Starrer ‘Kesari Chapter 2 – The Untold Chapter of Jallianwala Bagh’ to Release on April 18, 2025 The much-anticipated historical drama, ‘Kesari Chapter 2 – The Untold Chapter of Jallianwala Bagh,’ starring Akshay Kumar and Ananya Panday, is set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, the makers announced on Saturday. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is a spiritual successor to the 2019 blockbuster ‘Kesari,’ which portrayed the heroic Battle of Saragarhi. This new chapter will delve into the harrowing events of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, a turning point in India’s struggle for independence.

Joining the lead pair is R. Madhavan, whose pivotal role is expected to add depth to the narrative. While ‘Kesari’ depicted the bravery of 21 Sikh soldiers defending against thousands of Afghan tribesmen in 1897, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ will focus on the tragic massacre that occurred on April 13, 1919, in Amritsar, Punjab.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre remains one of the darkest chapters in India’s colonial history. On Baisakhi, a major Sikh festival, thousands of unarmed men, women, and children gathered at Jallianwala Bagh to peacefully protest the Rowlatt Act, a draconian law that allowed the British government to detain individuals without trial. The gathering, intended to voice dissent against this oppressive legislation, turned into a bloodbath when Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered his troops to open fire on the unsuspecting crowd.

The firing, which lasted for approximately ten minutes, resulted in the death of hundreds of innocent people and left over a thousand injured. The narrow exits of the walled garden prevented escape, exacerbating the horror. Official British records stated that 379 people were killed, but Indian estimates suggest the number was well over 1,000. The ruthless act sparked nationwide outrage and galvanized the Indian freedom movement, strengthening the resolve of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi to push for complete independence from British rule.

Director Karan Singh Tyagi, known for his meticulous storytelling, aims to bring this emotional and historic event to life with powerful performances and authentic visuals. Akshay Kumar, revered for his patriotic roles, will portray a key figure driving the narrative, while Ananya Panday is expected to play a character symbolizing the youth’s involvement in the freedom struggle. R. Madhavan’s role remains under wraps, but speculation suggests he may portray a historical figure deeply impacted by the massacre.

With its compelling storyline, stellar cast, and historical significance, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ promises to be a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during India’s fight for freedom.
