NEW DELHI: Amid the ongoing counting of votes for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the Delhi Secretariat has been temporarily sealed due to security concerns and the safety of official records. With the Election Commission of India’s trends indicating a BJP comeback after more than two decades, the General Administration Department (GAD) of the Delhi government has issued strict directives to protect important documents and electronic data.
A notice from the GAD stated, “To address security concerns and ensure the safety of records, no files, documents, or computer hardware may be taken outside the Delhi Secretariat complex without prior permission from the department.” Departments and offices within the Secretariat have been instructed to safeguard all physical and electronic files to prevent any potential mishandling or unauthorized removal.
The move comes as Delhi witnesses a significant political shift, with early trends showing the BJP heading for a decisive win. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has governed the capital since 2015, is facing a major setback. As the transition of power looms, security around government offices has been heightened to prevent any disruptions.
Officials believe the precautionary step is necessary to ensure a smooth transition and prevent tampering or loss of critical government records. With tensions running high and AAP’s defeat almost certain, the coming days will be crucial for administrative stability in the capital.
