New Delhi, Jan 28, 2025: Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing the nation’s resources to benefit a small group of billionaires.
During a press conference, Kejriwal claimed that he had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting this pressing concern. He alleged that the BJP-led government was systematically redirecting the nation’s wealth to favor a select few business tycoons.
In his letter, Kejriwal stated, “The government is giving loans to a handful of billionaires, only to later forgive them. To date, loans worth Rs 10 lakh crore taken by about 500 billionaires have been written off,” he said.
Kejriwal further argued that if the government intends to provide loan waivers, it should focus on those who truly need assistance, such as middle-class citizens and farmers, rather than benefiting the ultra-wealthy.
He pointed out the growing burden on the middle class, which he claimed earns Rs 12 lakh annually, with half of it going towards paying various taxes. In return, Kejriwal contended, they receive little to no benefits from the government.
Kejriwal suggested that if the government refrains from waiving loans for the wealthy, the overall tax burden could be reduced significantly. He added, “If the loans of the affluent are not forgiven, the tax rates could be slashed in half. GST rates could be lowered, and GST on essential food items could be entirely removed.”
This latest criticism from Kejriwal reflects ongoing concerns about economic inequality and the allocation of resources under the current government. By raising these issues, Kejriwal continues to call for a more equitable distribution of wealth, advocating for policies that would relieve the financial pressure on ordinary citizens, especially the middle class and farmers.
