Cidco Clears Illegal Container Yards Across 1.2 Lakh Sqm in Uran

Massive demolition near JNPA reclaims land for planned logistics park amid rising unauthorised activity

In a major enforcement action, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (City and Industrial Development Corporation) has demolished unauthorised container yards spread across more than 1.2 lakh square metres in Uran, marking one of its most extensive crackdowns in recent years. The operation targeted 13 plots located in Jambulpadha and Belondakhar, areas situated close to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, a key driver of logistics activity in the region.

Officials said the rise in demand for container storage and third-party logistics services near the port had led to a surge in illegal yard operations. Several operators had reportedly developed container stacking zones and temporary structures without obtaining the required land-use and development approvals, prompting action under planning regulations.

The demolition was carried out after following due legal procedures, including issuance of notices and hearings. According to officials, action was taken only after the concerned parties failed to comply within the stipulated time. Authorities have indicated that similar drives will continue in other areas where violations are detected.

The cleared land is part of a larger plan to develop a structured logistics park in Uran, which is gaining importance due to its proximity to port infrastructure and upcoming projects such as the Navi Mumbai International Airport. By reclaiming the encroached land, authorities aim to accelerate infrastructure development in the region and ensure planned growth.

The scale of this operation stands out compared to previous drives in the area, which typically addressed much smaller encroachments. Officials noted that the latest action highlights the growing extent of unauthorised activities in the port-linked logistics corridor and signals a stricter enforcement approach going forward.
