Indian Railways Approves ₹209 Crore for Electronic Interlocking at 7 Stations in Solapur Division

New Delhi, September 19, 2026: Indian Railways has approved ₹209 crore for the installation of Electronic Interlocking (EI) systems at seven stations in the Solapur Division of Central Railway.

The project will cover Mohol, Mundhewadi, Bale, Solapur, Hotgi Junction-Hotgi A Cabin, Shahabad and Wadi Junction along the High Density Network (HDN) 7 route. The route has also been sanctioned for the implementation of Kavach, Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) and Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) systems.

Electronic Interlocking is a computer-based signalling system designed to replace conventional relay-based interlocking. The modern system enables more reliable control of railway points and signals while allowing faster fault detection and restoration.

The upgraded signalling infrastructure is also expected to simplify maintenance and support more efficient train operations across the division.

The project forms part of Indian Railways’ broader efforts to modernise signalling systems, strengthen railway safety and improve operational efficiency on high-density routes. The installation of EI will also facilitate the implementation of Kavach, India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection system.

The signalling upgrade is expected to strengthen the technological infrastructure of the Solapur Division and support the railways’ ongoing transition towards modern, safer and more efficient train operations.
