NEW DELHI, 25 JUNE 2026: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari reviewed the quality, maintenance, and progress of National Highway projects spanning 4,931 km in Telangana, 2,035 km in Jammu & Kashmir, and 804 km in Ladakh during separate review meetings held in New Delhi.
Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra was also present during the meetings. The reviews were conducted based on feedback received through media reports, social media platforms, and inputs from officials of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and project contractors.
During the meetings, Gadkari assessed the progress of ongoing highway projects, maintenance activities, and steps being taken to ensure safe, efficient, and durable road infrastructure. He emphasized the need to speed up project execution while maintaining high standards of quality, transparency, and accountability.

The Minister directed officials and implementing agencies to enhance monitoring systems, ensure timely completion of projects, and adopt advanced construction technologies and innovative practices to improve road durability, riding comfort, and long-term performance.
Highlighting the importance of strong road connectivity, Gadkari stated that well-maintained highways play a crucial role in boosting regional development, supporting economic growth, promoting tourism, and improving travel convenience for citizens.
He also stressed the need for comprehensive monsoon preparedness across all highway stretches. Officials were instructed to focus on preventive measures such as efficient drainage management, slope stabilization, protection works, and deployment of quick-response teams to handle weather-related challenges.
Gadkari underlined that resilient highway infrastructure is essential for ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and enhancing road safety, especially in challenging terrains like Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to developing world-class highway infrastructure through timely project delivery, strict quality control, sustainable engineering solutions, and continuous improvement in road construction and maintenance practices.
