Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurates ‘Citizen Lounge-cum-New Age Learning Centre’ at New Delhi District Magistrate’s Office

New Delhi, 16 June 2026: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated the ‘Citizen Lounge-cum-New Age Learning Centre’ established within the New Delhi District Magistrate (DM) office complex. The initiative marks an important step towards improving public facilities, making administrative services more citizen-friendly, and creating new learning and development opportunities for young people.

During her visit, the Chief Minister inspected the modern Citizen Lounge, the library and reading corner, and the newly constructed toilet block. Describing the initiative as an excellent example of good governance and public service, she said that citizens visiting administrative offices should have a dignified, comfortable and positive experience, adding that this remains a key priority of the Delhi Government.

CM Rekha Gupta said that the facility is not merely a waiting lounge or a library, but a symbol of a new approach to governance and administration. Children from nearby settlements and economically weaker sections will also be able to study here and benefit from facilities that are not ordinarily or easily available to them. She added that when the three pillars of governance, government, administration and CSR, come together, they create a strong foundation for a city’s development and transformation. The Citizen Lounge established at the DM office, she said, is a strong example of such coordinated efforts.

New Age Learning Centre to become a hub for learning and skill development

The Citizen Lounge will not remain limited to serving as a waiting area and is planned to be developed into a knowledge and skill development centre for students and young people. Books on law, administration, career guidance, competitive examinations and other subjects will be made available. Computers will also be installed to ensure access to digital resources. The centre will regularly host career counselling sessions, skill development programmes, expert talks, guidance workshops and youth interaction programmes. These initiatives will provide young people with opportunities to gain new knowledge, develop skills and better understand administrative processes.

A better experience for citizens

The Citizen Lounge offers an air-conditioned waiting room, comfortable seating arrangements, newspapers, books, magazines and a dedicated reading corner for visitors. Senior citizens, women, children and other visitors will be able to wait for their turn in a clean, organised and comfortable environment.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that good governance is not limited to the implementation of schemes but also involves providing citizens with dignified and hassle-free services. “Our objective is that every person visiting the DM office should leave with better facilities and a positive experience,” she said. At the conclusion of the programme, the Chief Minister congratulated the Divisional Commissioner, the district administration, Elan Group, and all officials and partners associated with the initiative. She said that such efforts would play an important role in making Delhi a more sensitive, inclusive and citizen-centric capital.
