President Droupadi Murmu Reviews Training Excellence at Army Training Command in Shimla

Focus on modern warfare readiness technology integration and enhanced operational preparedness of Indian Army

Shimla, May 1, 2026: The Honorable President of India and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Droupadi Murmu visited the Headquarters of Army Training Command in Shimla where she was received by Himachal Pradesh Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta and Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma General Officer Commanding in Chief Army Training Command.

During the visit, the President was given a detailed briefing by Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma on the evolution of the Army Training Command and its important role in preparing Indian Army personnel through advanced training methods aimed at improving operational effectiveness. She was also informed about several new initiatives being implemented within the command structure.

The briefing highlighted key developments including specialised drone training programmes, adoption of advanced and niche technologies, introduction of red teaming concepts for strategic assessment, and ongoing efforts in digitisation and automation within the Indian Army training ecosystem.

The President noted that the Army Training Command plays a comprehensive role in shaping modern military thinking including development of warfare concepts, strengthening resource capabilities for the armed forces and promoting cooperation with friendly foreign countries as well as sister services. She described it as a crucial element in advancing military excellence, self reliance and national development goals.

It was also emphasized that the command operates through thirty two premier training institutions which contribute significantly to enhancing professionalism and capability building within the Indian Army, thereby strengthening its understanding of both the science and strategy of warfare.

Smt Droupadi Murmu also interacted with Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma in the presence of Himachal Pradesh Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta and discussed aspects of military training aimed at strengthening national security and preparedness.

The President encouraged the Army Training Command to continue its dedicated efforts towards improving operational readiness of the armed forces. She appreciated the commitment of all personnel including officers, soldiers and defence civilians associated with the command and urged them to maintain their enthusiasm and continue contributing with greater dedication.
