Washington DC– The White House hosted a grand state dinner as Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed King Charles III and Queen Camilla, marking a celebration of the long-standing relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
The evening featured a carefully curated menu and décor inspired by nature, with soft pink tones and cherry blossom arrangements setting the tone for the formal gathering. Guests raised toasts to the enduring alliance between the two nations, with the US President describing it as a unique and lasting friendship.
The dinner began with a refined herb velouté made using ingredients from the White House garden, paired with a hearts of palm salad. This was followed by a ravioli course that continued the garden-to-table theme.
For the main course, guests were served a classic Dover sole meunière, prepared with brown butter and accompanied by seasonal vegetables such as spring ramps and snow peas, along with a layered potato pavé.
Dessert added a creative touch to the evening, featuring a chocolate gâteau crafted in the shape of a beehive. It was served with vanilla bean custard, crème fraîche ice cream, and honey sourced from the White House grounds, symbolising sustainability and nature.
The décor complemented the menu, drawing inspiration from English gardens with lush greenery, lilac accents, and seasonal floral arrangements including ranunculus and lily of the valley. Tables were set with fine tableware from the historic White House collection and personalised menus.
Earlier in the day, the First Lady also presented a decorative beehive installation on the South Lawn to the royal guests, further reflecting the evening’s theme.
The state dinner not only showcased culinary excellence but also underscored the cultural and diplomatic ties shared by the two countries.
