London- Users of Microsoft Outlook faced widespread disruption on Monday after a major outage left many unable to access their email accounts across regions including the United States and the United Kingdom.
The issue began around mid-morning, according to outage tracking platform Downdetector, with hundreds of users reporting problems such as login failures, unexpected sign-outs, and delays in receiving emails. A significant portion of complaints were related to account access, with users encountering repeated sign-in errors.
Parent company Microsoft acknowledged the outage, confirming that its teams are actively examining the situation. In an official update, the company stated that some users may be experiencing intermittent access issues, including “too many requests” errors and forced logouts across devices.
Preliminary findings suggest the disruption may be linked to complications in authentication systems and interactions between Outlook servers and third-party email clients. Microsoft added that it is reviewing service data to identify the root cause and implement corrective measures.
The company also indicated that user-side fixes are unlikely to resolve the issue, as the problem appears to stem from backend infrastructure. Engineers are continuing to monitor the situation and are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
The outage highlights the vulnerability of widely used digital communication platforms, with thousands relying on uninterrupted email services for both personal and professional use.
