Bahraich- A tragic road accident on the Bahraich bypass in Uttar Pradesh turned fatal after multiple vehicles collided, resulting in a fierce blaze that claimed the lives of two drivers and left another person critically injured, officials confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred near Assam Chauraha late Sunday night when three vehicles — a truck transporting iron equipment from Punjab, a cement-loaded trailer registered in Haryana, and a pickup vehicle from Lucknow — crashed into each other under circumstances that are still being investigated.
The collision triggered a powerful fire that quickly engulfed the front sections of the truck and trailer. Both drivers were trapped inside their cabins and were unable to escape, leading to their deaths in the flames. Emergency responders faced significant challenges as the wreckage had to be cut open to retrieve the charred remains, a process that took several hours.
Authorities identified one of the deceased as Jeetlal Yadav, who was driving the Haryana-registered trailer and hailed from Prayagraj. His assistant, who survived with severe injuries, is currently receiving medical treatment and helped police confirm his identity.
Police officials stated that efforts are ongoing to determine the identity of the second victim, who was driving the Punjab-registered truck. Attempts to contact the vehicle’s registered owner have so far been unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the pickup vehicle involved in the accident was discovered abandoned at the site, with no cargo or occupants present. Eyewitnesses reported that three individuals seen traveling in the pickup fled immediately after the crash.
The damaged vehicles, especially the truck and trailer, were severely burnt, with their cabins completely destroyed. Authorities have sent the bodies for postmortem examination and initiated a detailed investigation to piece together the sequence of events.
