New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested four accused within one hour in connection with an assault case reported from the Wazirpur area of North-West Delhi, officials said on Saturday. The incident took place in K-Block of JJ Colony, Wazirpur, and a case has been registered at Bharat Nagar Police Station. Police teams are continuing efforts to apprehend the remaining accused.
According to police, a PCR call regarding a quarrel was received on March 12. Acting immediately on the information, police personnel rushed to the spot and learned that the injured persons had already been shifted to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West District) Akanksha Yadav confirmed the developments.
At the hospital, Mohan Lal (42) and Virender (47), both residents of JJ Colony, Wazirpur, were found admitted with injuries.
During the preliminary enquiry, police found that the incident occurred near Mata Park (Pathwari Park). The accused — identified as Sahil alias Natwala alias Lala, along with his associates Raghav alias Aligarhiya alias Romio alias Akshay Kumar, Abhishek alias Baghira and Arjun — allegedly assaulted the victims following a quarrel that erupted due to a minor obstruction caused by an e-rickshaw during a wedding procession.
Police teams immediately conducted raids and arrested four accused persons within an hour of the incident. The Crime Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were also called to inspect the crime scene.
A case has been registered under Sections 103(1), 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Bharat Nagar Police Station. Further investigation is currently underway, and teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the remaining accused.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police also issued a clarification regarding a video circulating on social media in which a police officer allegedly claimed that criminals involved in narcotics and other offences were released on the directions of public representatives.
Police said the comments were made by Inspector Rajeev, ATO Ashok Vihar, who was temporarily looking after the charge of SHO Bharat Nagar while the regular SHO was on leave. The department clarified that the remarks were irresponsible, not based on facts, and do not reflect the official position of Delhi Police.
Taking cognisance of the matter, Delhi Police has initiated strict disciplinary action against the officer. He has been transferred to District Lines and removed from the charge of SHO with immediate effect.
Delhi Police reiterated that it functions strictly according to the law and on the merits of each case without any external interference. The department also emphasized its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against crime and continuing sustained action against narcotics-related offences.
