Islamabad [Pakistan], September 22 : The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Monday called for an immediate inquiry into the alleged aerial bombing in Tirah Valley, Khyber district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which reportedly killed at least 20 civilians, including women and children.
In a statement posted on X, HRCP expressed shock over the incident, urging authorities to hold accountable those responsible.
“HRCP is deeply shocked to learn that a number of civilians, including children, have been killed, allegedly as a result of aerial bombing in Tirah. We demand that the authorities carry out an immediate and impartial inquiry into the incident and hold to account those responsible. The state is constitutionally bound to protect all civilians’ right to life, which it has repeatedly failed to secure,” the statement read.
According to the opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), several bombs dropped by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jets struck residential areas in Tirah Valley on Sunday, destroying five houses and killing civilians. PTI leaders alleged that at least 20 bodies were recovered from the rubble, while disturbing visuals shared online showed the dead, including children.
The PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter condemned the attack in a post on X:
“During the jet aircraft bombing in the Tirah Valley, several bombs fell on the local population. Five houses were destroyed, and according to local sources, 20 bodies have been recovered from the rubble so far, including children and women among the martyrs.”
The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with calls for accountability and justice for the victims.
