India Committed to Atmanirbhar Growth and Global Leadership: Piyush Goyal

Piyush Goyal highlights Swadeshi, Atmanirbhar Bharat, GST reforms, and sustainable growth. India rises to top five economy under PM Modi’s leadership.

New Delhi, September 8, 2025 – Addressing the 56th EEPC India National Awards, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, emphasized India’s unity and resilience in overcoming global challenges. He urged businesses to focus on swadeshi products and the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, highlighting that self-reliance strengthens India’s economic security and global standing.

 Goyal recalled the Prime Minister’s call on 15th August to prioritize Made in India products and innovation. He stressed that Indian businesses should reduce import dependence by producing key goods domestically. The Minister underlined that India’s strength lies in trade and the MSME sector, which form the backbone of the country’s economic growth.

The event was graced by the  President of India,  Droupadi Murmu, who highlighted the advancement of India’s engineering exports over the decades and their role in strengthening the nation’s economy. Goyal noted that exports have grown from USD 10 million in 1955 to USD 116 billion today, reflecting the sector’s immense progress and future potential.

 Goyal emphasized the government’s “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” philosophy, ensuring high-quality products are made in India and trusted globally. He highlighted India’s sustainability efforts, noting that the country has ranked among the top three globally for consecutive years under its NDC commitments at COP21, Paris.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has risen from the fragile five to a top-five economy, maintaining the fastest growth for the past four years, with the last quarter registering 7.8% GDP growth, a global record. He added that GST rate cuts and reforms have boosted domestic demand, increased income opportunities, and strengthened infrastructure spending, paving the way for India to emerge as a global economic power.

 Goyal concluded by emphasizing the importance of inclusive growth, equitable economic benefits, and ensuring that advantages of GST reforms reach consumers. He expressed confidence that a united, self-reliant India can become a global role model for sustainable and inclusive development.
