New Delhi, July 11, 2025 — In a mixed bag of career developments across India, job seekers have something to look forward to — and something to worry about.

The Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) has officially kickstarted the hiring process for 1,996 Postgraduate Teacher (PGT) positions across government schools. This long-awaited announcement comes as a boost for qualified candidates who have been eagerly waiting for government teaching opportunities.

Applications are expected to open shortly on the TRB’s official website. Candidates must hold a postgraduate degree in their respective subjects and a B.Ed. degree. The selection will include a written exam followed by certificate verification. With lakhs of aspirants preparing, this recruitment drive is likely to see stiff competition.

In another major announcement, the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) are reportedly planning to fill around 50,000 vacancies across various zones and categories in the 2025–26 fiscal year. These positions will cover Group C and Group D posts, technical and non-technical roles, and may include RPF and NTPC categories as well.

This development aligns with the Indian Railways’ modernization and expansion push. Aspirants should start preparing now, as notifications for these posts are expected to roll out in a phased manner in the coming months.

While some sectors are opening up opportunities, others are witnessing mass layoffs. According to industry trackers, more than 1 lakh jobs have been cut across India in 2025, mainly due to restructuring and cost-cutting measures by large corporations.

The tech industry, especially startups and IT service providers, has been the hardest hit, with companies downsizing to streamline operations. Surprisingly, even non-tech sectors like retail, manufacturing, and media have contributed to job losses amid global economic uncertainty.

The Indian job market is currently navigating a two-speed reality — while government recruitment continues to offer stability, the private sector is facing volatility. Aspirants are advised to stay updated on public sector notifications and upskill to stay relevant in the changing job landscape.
