Sonipat, May 7: A large-scale mock drill was organized by the district administration under “Operation Abhyas” at 4 PM on Wednesday to assess emergency preparedness and raise public awareness. The exercise was led by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manoj Kumar.
The drill began with a siren at the Mini Secretariat, simulating an emergency situation. Rescue operations commenced immediately, with officials and employees evacuated to the designated safe house at the Saral Centre. During the search operation, mock-injured individuals were provided first aid and sent to hospitals via ambulance. On receiving a simulated fire alert, the fire brigade swiftly brought the situation under control.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manoj Kumar took charge of relief operations and issued directions to administrative and police officials. The coordinated efforts of the police, civil defense, and related departments ensured a comprehensive response, reflecting the district’s preparedness for major disasters.
The mock drill was conducted at multiple locations, including the Mini Secretariat, kaccha quarters, railway station, Ashoka University, and sub-divisional secretariats in Gohana, Ganaur, and Kharkhoda. Rescue drills were successfully executed at all sites, with active participation from ambulance services, doctors, nursing staff, fire units, police personnel, and civil defense volunteers.
Purpose of the Mock Drill:
Dr. Manoj Kumar stated that the primary objective was to test the readiness of the air raid warning system, review the operations of main and auxiliary control rooms, and evaluate evacuation procedures. He emphasized that every aspect of the mock drill is being reviewed for a detailed report.
Following the drill, the DC held a review meeting with all incident commanders and senior officials. He stressed the importance of thorough preparedness at all levels to enable a swift and coordinated response in real emergencies. He directed the setup of store rooms at the district and sub-divisional secretariats, stocked with essential equipment such as microphones, anti-riot gear, stretchers, torches, ropes, PPE kits, and more.
The DC instructed officials to ensure sirens are installed on all major buildings across the district and in sub-divisional and rural areas. Responsibilities were assigned to city councilors and village sarpanches for maintenance. Additionally, civil defense volunteers will be increased and trained. Red Cross will conduct special training camps for the first aid measures.
SDMs were also directed to ensure radio wireless systems are in place at each sub-division.
Earlier in the day, DC Dr. Manoj Kumar conducted surprise inspections of all disaster management and civil defense stores in the district. He reviewed the condition and availability of emergency equipment and directed that unserviceable items be removed, with an updated inventory maintained under the supervision of the City Magistrate.
DCP Kushal Singh, Zila Parishad CEO Abhay Singh Jangra, City Magistrate Dr. Anmol, Gohana Sugar Mill MD Ankita Verma, SDM Subhash Chandra at the railway station, Commissioner Harshit Kumar at kaccha quarters, SDMs Anjali Shrotriya (Gohana), Dr. Nirmal Nagar (Kharkhoda), and Pravesh Kadian (Ganaur), DPRO Jitendra Kumar, and ACPs Rajpal and Rahul Dev, among others were present at the mock drill.
