Srinagar, Jan 6, 2025: Weather conditions have improved across the Kashmir Valley after recent snowfall, allowing flight operations at Srinagar International Airport to resume on Monday, following their suspension on Sunday, as per official reports. “The runway has been cleared of snow, and visibility is now optimal. Air Traffic Control (ATC) is ready to clear flight operations,” stated Javed Anjum, Director of Srinagar International Airport, to UNI. He mentioned that all 37 scheduled flights are set to depart from Srinagar International Airport on Monday. Due to poor visibility and foggy conditions, all flights to and from the Srinagar airport were suspended on Sunday. However, weather conditions in Srinagar and other regions of the Kashmir Valley improved after experiencing fresh snowfall and rain on Sunday. The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has forecasted light rain and snowfall in isolated areas over the next 24 hours. The weather is expected to stay dry for the following two days. The minimum temperature during the night between Saturday and Monday showed a significant improvement, although it remained below freezing throughout the Kashmir Valley. Srinagar recorded a low of -0.5°C, which was 1.4°C higher than the usual temperature for this time of year. At the famous ski resort of Gulmarg, the minimum temperature was -4.5°C, which was 3.3°C above the seasonal average. The tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of -1.4°C, while Qazigund, Kupwara, and Kokernag recorded temperatures below freezing at -0.2°C, -0.3°C, and -0.4°C, respectively, according to the MeT office.
