India vs Bangladesh 1st Test, Day 3 : Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant Extend India’s Lead to 432 Runs

New Delhi : India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 3: Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant started Day 3 with an aggressive mindset, capitalizing on loose deliveries. Both batters reached their half-centuries with ease and are now steadily heading towards their respective centuries. India extended their lead to 432 runs by lunch, with Shubman Gill (86*) and Rishabh Pant (82*) dominating the Bangladesh bowlers, who struggled to break their 138-run partnership.

The pitch appears to be easing up and offering little assistance to the spinners at this stage. India will look to capitalize on the favorable conditions, with the likes of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul aiming to pile on runs. The team navigated the new ball without much trouble, setting the stage for a big lead.

India’s decision not to send in a nightwatchman after Virat Kohli’s dismissal, and allowing Pant to hit boundaries before stumps, showed a clear intent to accelerate the scoring. Shubman Gill, who was on 33*(64) at the end of Day 2, is poised for a substantial score on Day 3.

For Bangladesh, with the match rapidly slipping away, their best hope is to prevent India’s batters from gaining further momentum ahead of the second Test in Kanpur.

While the dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Kohli in both innings were positive for the visitors, they still face a formidable challenge from India’s deep batting lineup.

Bangladesh will be hoping that the older ball begins to offer more spin, giving Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan a chance to control the scoring and take wickets. For the Tigers, their primary concern remains building meaningful partnerships with the bat.

On Day 2, a record 17 wickets fell, the highest number in a single day of play at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. India ended their first innings with 376 runs, despite Ravindra Jadeja missing out on a century after edging a delivery from Taskin Ahmed. His partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin fell just short of the 200-run mark.

Akash Deep swung his bat freely but couldn’t add many runs, holing out to Taskin. Ashwin followed suit, mistiming a shot for a simple catch. Jasprit Bumrah’s dismissal at third slip gave Mahmud Hasan the first-ever five-wicket haul by a Bangladeshi bowler on Indian soil.

India’s bowlers made an immediate impact as Bumrah knocked back Shadman Islam’s off-stump in the first over. Akash Deep, continuing his impressive form from the Duleep Trophy, removed Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque in successive balls. Mohammed Siraj then dismissed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto with an edge, and KL Rahul took a sharp catch off Bumrah to send Mushfiqur Rahim packing.

Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan briefly steadied the ship with a 51-run partnership, but both departed cheaply—Das falling to a sweeping shot caught by sub fielder Dhruv Jurel, and Shakib under-edging a reverse sweep into Rishabh Pant’s gloves.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with crucial runs alongside the tail, but Bumrah and Siraj cleaned up the rest, dismissing Bangladesh for 149. Rohit Sharma opted against enforcing the follow-on, sending India’s openers back out.

Rohit fell early to a superb delivery from Taskin Ahmed, while Yashasvi Jaiswal’s aggressive approach was cut short by a catch behind off Nahid Rana. Shubman Gill bounced back from his first-innings duck with a fluid innings, and Pant’s late boundaries off Shakib took India to 81-3 at stumps, with a commanding lead of 308 runs.
