Maharashtra: Two Dead, Three Injured in Speeding Car-Bus Collision

Maharashtra : In Maharashtra, two persons lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries after a speeding car reportedly collided with a state transport bus at Tamhini Ghat in Raigad district. The tragic accident occurred yesterday evening on the Pune-Mangaon Road. According to police reports, the driver of the car is suspected to have lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collision with a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the car was traveling at high speed when it suddenly veered off course and rammed into the bus. The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the immediate death of two occupants of the car. The three injured individuals, including one from the bus, were rushed to a sub-district hospital in Raigad district, where they are currently receiving treatment. The condition of at least one of the injured remains critical, as per hospital authorities.

Police officials and emergency response teams reached the accident site shortly after receiving the alert. They carried out rescue operations and helped clear the debris from the road to restore traffic movement. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding and possible negligence could have played a role in the accident. The police are conducting further inquiries to ascertain the exact cause and have not ruled out factors such as poor road conditions or mechanical failure of the vehicle.

Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution while driving, especially in hilly and winding areas like Tamhini Ghat, which is known for its sharp turns and steep slopes. Road safety experts have reiterated the need for better awareness regarding speed limits and the importance of defensive driving on such routes.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation has expressed condolences to the victims’ families and assured full cooperation with the investigation. The MSRTC has also emphasized that their drivers are trained to handle emergency situations, but reckless driving by other vehicles remains a major concern.

Meanwhile, local residents have called for improved road safety measures, including better signage, speed monitoring systems, and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such accidents in the future. Officials from the transport department have assured that they will review the safety conditions of the Pune-Mangaon Road and consider necessary improvements to enhance commuter safety.
