New Delhi : All arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly, scheduled to be held tomorrow. Polling will take place from 7 AM to 6 PM on Wednesday, with over one crore 56 lakh voters set to decide the fate of 699 candidates contesting across various constituencies. The high-voltage campaigning for the elections concluded last evening, and all eyes are now on the polling process. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on Saturday, determining the next government in the national capital.
Over 1.8 lakh personnel, including security forces and election staff, have been deployed to oversee the process and maintain law and order. A comprehensive security arrangement has been put in place to prevent any disruptions, with special attention given to sensitive and highly populated polling stations.
A major crackdown on election-related malpractices has resulted in the seizure of cash, liquor, drugs, freebies, and precious metals worth over 220 crore rupees. The largest component of the seizures is drugs, amounting to 88 crore rupees, followed by precious metals worth over 81 crore rupees. This marks a nearly four-fold increase compared to the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, during which total seizures amounted to 57.5 crore rupees. The strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct has played a crucial role in curbing illicit activities and maintaining electoral integrity.
Since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, 7,499 complaints have been received through the cVigil app, a platform that allows citizens to report election violations in real time. Out of these complaints, only 32 cases remain under process, while the rest have been successfully resolved. The Election Commission has urged voters to come forward and exercise their franchise responsibly while ensuring that any violations are promptly reported.
With all preparations in place, authorities are focusing on ensuring maximum voter turnout and a smooth electoral process.
