“Chief Minister Urges Punjabis to Lead Grassroots Movement for Environmental Protection”

Jalandhar, August 15 , 2024 :Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today called upon all Punjabis to conduct a mass movement to prevent the polluted environment by following the teachings of the great Guru Sahib.
In his address after hoisting the national flag during the state-level function on the occasion of 78th Independence Day at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium here today, the Chief Minister recalled the unparalleled contribution of Punjabis in the national freedom struggle. He said that Punjabis have made the most sacrifices during the freedom movement. The Chief Minister said that more than 80 percent of those who were martyred for the sake of the country and exiled from Punjab were from Punjab. He said that Baba Ram Singh, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Shaheed Udham Singh, Kartar Singh Sarabha, Diwan Singh Kalepani and other great heroes shed their blood to get freedom.
Bhagwant Singh Mann said that even after independence, Punjabis have always played a leading role in protecting the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country. The Chief Minister said that the hardworking farmers of the state contributed the most in bringing the green revolution in the country, which made the country self-reliant in food grains. He said that the farmers of Punjab had to pay a huge price for the protection of the country’s food reserves as they also put precious resources like water and fertile land at stake. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that today India is exporting food grains to other countries due to the great contribution of the farmers of Punjab whereas during the 1960s we were at the mercy of other countries for food grains.
The Chief Minister said that the country can progress only if Punjab plays a leading role in terms of prosperity and development. He said that preventing pollution in these days is a serious challenge, due to which every Punjabi should contribute more and more to get rid of this problem. Referring to the verse of Gurbani ‘Pavanu Guru, Pani Pita, Mata Dharti Mahatu’, the Chief Minister said that the great Gurus have given the status of wind (wind) as Guru, water as father and land (earth) as mother. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the time has come, when we should adopt the teachings of Gurbani in our lives to restore the ancient glory of the state while resolving to save the environment of the state. He said that we all should start a broad movement to protect the environment so that we can give a pollution free environment to our future generations. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government will leave no stone unturned for this noble cause and Punjab will soon be green and pollution free.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that the state government has started a strict action against drugs and in this regard, no kind of excuse will be used. He said that so far 14381 drug traffickers have been sent to jail and 10393 FIRs have been registered. He said that the property of 379 drug smugglers worth Rs 173 crore has been seized and further action is also underway. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is very satisfactory that the conviction rate against drug traffickers is 83 percent.
Referring to the development works and public welfare schemes carried out by the state government, the Chief Minister said that his government has given maximum attention to the rehabilitation of canal water infrastructure in the state. He said that when his government came to power, only 21 percent of canal water was used for irrigation. He said that it is a matter of pride that now 72 percent of canal water is being used for irrigation. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that canal water has been brought to the farmers on tails, who were craving for canal water for decades and our initiative will save ground water.
The Chief Minister said that for the first time after independence, his government has started the construction of the Malwa Canal in the state. He said that it is a record that none of the previous governments of the state paid attention to this need. Bhagwant Singh Mann further said that this new canal, about 150 km long, will usher in a new era of unprecedented progress and prosperity in the state, especially the Malwa region, and the state government will spend about Rs 2300 crore on this prestigious project, which is about It will meet the irrigation needs of two lakh acres of land.
The Chief Minister further said that another new bank canal is being constructed, which will benefit 11 thousand acres of land. He said that a dam with a capacity of 206 MW is also being established at Dhar Kalan and in the coming days this dam will be dedicated to the people, for which the entire process has been completed. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab is making unprecedented progress in every field and this pace will continue in the future.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has launched the ‘Bhagwant Maan Sarkar Apahe Dwar’ scheme to provide services to the people at their rates. He said that 43 such civic services have been identified under this scheme, out of which 99 percent of the services are related to the administrative functions of the people. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that special camps are being organized in different parts of the state so that the people of the villages can get the maximum benefit of these services.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has named Mohali International Airport after Mahan Shaheed S. Named after Bhagat Singh and besides, Shaheed S. on the road to the airport. A 35 feet tall statue of Bhagat Singh will also be installed on September 28. He said that the state government has sent a resolution to the government of India to name the international airport under construction at Indian Air Force Station Halwara as Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport.
The Chief Minister said that Aam Aadmi clinics have revolutionized the health sector. He said that so far more than 2 crore people have benefited from these clinics and 95 percent of the patients have been cured of the disease. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that every third person of Punjab has benefited from these clinics.
The Chief Minister said that education revolution has been launched to improve the infrastructure of government schools. He said that 118 senior secondary schools are being set up as schools of eminence, where there are all kinds of state-of-the-art facilities. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that by getting quality education, students will perform well in their lives and in national and international competitions.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has provided private company GVK at a cost of Rs 1080 crore. A new success story has been written by buying Goindwal Power Plant owned by Power Power. He said that for the first time a reverse trend has been seen in the state as the government has bought private power plants while earlier the state governments used to sell their properties to interested individuals at a bargain price. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the coal from the Pachwara coal mine can be used only for government thermal plants, so by purchasing this plant, this coal will be able to be used here as well, due to which the shortage of electricity in the state will not be a problem.
The Chief Minister said that in the year 2022, the facility of giving free electricity to the people was started and currently 90 percent of the houses are getting free electricity. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is more satisfactory that free electricity is being provided to farms as well as domestic electricity.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has established a first of its kind dedicated road safety force across the country to save precious lives and increase safety in road accidents on state and national highways. 1597 specially trained newly recruited personnel are working as the backbone of this force and they have been provided with 144 vehicles equipped with state-of-the-art machinery. Since its inception in February, the force has saved nearly 1300 precious lives in road accidents compared to last year. Apart from this, cash and goods worth Rs 90 lakh have been safely returned to those injured in the accidents. This force has been deployed on 4200 km of highways. Besides patrolling its assigned area, this force is also working to prevent violation of traffic rules.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has implemented a new sports policy in the year 2023 to restore the glory of Punjab in the field of sports. He said that the sportsmen of the state performed brilliantly in the Paris Olympic Games, which shows the uniqueness of the sports policy. He said that it is a matter of pride that 10 players are from Punjab in the Indian team that won the bronze medal in hockey. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced to conduct ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Ki-3’ from August 28, which will give a big boost to sports activities in the state.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has so far given government jobs to 44667 youths in various departments. He said that the entire recruitment has been done on the basis of pure merit in a transparent manner. He said that the youth’s confidence in the policies and intentions of the state government has increased, due to which they are preparing for government jobs by leaving the intention of going abroad.

Earlier, CM Yogashala, tent pegging, colorful program of school students tied the time and the students enthralled the audience by performing Gatka, Giddha, Bhangra and other traditional folk dances.
The Chief Minister honored two freedom fighters Prem Sagar and Dev Varat Sharma and the family members of the martyred soldiers. The Chief Minister also distributed sewing machines to needy women and tricycles to disabled persons.
