Explosion Occurs While Victim Cleans Home; Investigation Underway

Imphal August 11 2024 : In a tragic incident in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, Charubala Haokip, the 59-year-old wife of former MLA Yamthong Haokip, was killed in a blast at their residence in E. Mulam village on Saturday. The area is predominantly inhabited by the Kuki community.

According to police reports, the explosion occurred around 3 p.m. on Saturday as Charubala was cleaning the house and its compound. She was burning waste items when the explosion took place inside their residential compound. The former MLA lodged a complaint at the Saikul police station on Sunday, detailing the incident.

Charubala sustained severe injuries from the blast and was initially taken to the primary health center in Saikul before being transferred to Kangpokpi district hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Police have confirmed that there were no other casualties reported. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blast and to establish any possible connections.
