25 PTI, SIC Lawmakers Yet to Quit NA Committees Despite Imran Khan’s Orders

Islamabad [Pakistan], September 7 : Despite clear directives from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, around 25 lawmakers belonging to PTI and its ally Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) have not resigned from their positions in various standing committees of the National Assembly (NA).

According to Geo News, while 52 PTI and SIC members have already stepped down, including five who submitted resignations recently, several remain active in committee roles. Names still appearing on official records include Sohail Sultan, Muhammad Nawaz Khan, Muhammad Atif, Sher Ali Arbab, Osama Ahmed Mela, Ghulam Muhammad, Muhammad Saadullah, Umar Farooq, Muhammad Mehboob Sultan, Khawaja Sheeraz, Ayesha Nazir, Mian Ghaus Muhammad, and Fayyaz Hussain, among others.

Sources revealed that National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has not yet taken formal action on the resignations submitted, allegedly at the government’s request to delay approvals. “As long as their resignations are not formally accepted, they continue to remain members of their respective House standing committees,” parliamentary sources said.

Amid the confusion, announced a complete boycott of NA sessions. Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram dismissed the reported list of 25 lawmakers as “incorrect,” clarifying that some members are abroad, some unwell, and others have already submitted resignations that are awaiting confirmation.

Last month, declared it would boycott upcoming by-elections and withdraw from all parliamentary committees, citing what it called an “uneven political playing field.” The decision was unanimously endorsed by the party’s political committee under Imran Khan’s guidance, with the aim of reshaping the party’s electoral strategy following a spate of disqualifications.

As the political standoff deepens, uncertainty continues over the status of PTI and SIC lawmakers in parliamentary committees, leaving both party workers and opponents watching closely how the NA leadership handles the pending resignations.
