Railways Announces Special Trains to Handle Festival Travel Demand

New Delhi : With the festival of Holi approaching, people working away from home are preparing to travel back to their hometowns to celebrate with their families. Recognizing the increased demand for travel during this period, Indian Railways has introduced special Holi trains to ensure a smoother and more comfortable journey for passengers. This initiative aims to alleviate the challenges associated with ticket availability and overcrowding, which are common during festive seasons.

To accommodate the surge in passengers, the South Central Railway (SCR) has announced the operation of 14 special Holi trains connecting key destinations across the country. These trains will run on select dates in March 2025, covering major routes such as Cherlapalli, Shalimar, Santragachi, Jalna, and Patna. By introducing these additional services, the railway authorities aim to facilitate hassle-free travel and enable people to reach their loved ones without disruptions.

Passengers availing these services will have stoppages at several important railway stations to ensure connectivity with different regions. For travelers on routes such as Cherlapalli to Shalimar and Santragachi, the trains will halt at key stations including Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Nadikude, Sattenapalle, Guntur, Vijayawada, Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Rajahmundry, Samalkot, Anakapalle, Vizianagaram, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Kharagpur. Similarly, those journeying between Jalna and Patna will have stoppages at important stations such as Partur, Selu, Manwat Road, Parbhani, Purna, Akola, Shegaon, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Itarsi, Buxar, and Ara. These stops have been strategically planned to maximize accessibility for passengers traveling across different regions.

In terms of travel class and accommodations, the special Holi trains have been designed to cater to passengers across all categories. The coaches will include a combination of AC Two-Tier (2AC), AC Three-Tier (3AC), Sleeper Class, and General Second-Class compartments, ensuring that travelers have multiple options based on their budget and preferences. This move is expected to significantly ease the burden on regular train services, which often witness excessive demand during festive seasons.

The introduction of these special Holi trains reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to addressing passenger needs during peak travel periods. By facilitating additional travel options, the railway network not only enhances passenger convenience but also strengthens connectivity between major cities and rural areas. Authorities have urged travelers to plan their journeys in advance and book tickets at the earliest to avoid last-minute inconveniences.
