New Delhi, August 13, 2024: Indian Railways has pledged full support to the Dera Radha Soami Satsang (RSSB) management, particularly in enhancing infrastructure at the Beas railway station in Punjab. Beas is a crucial hub for RSSB followers, with significant traffic during both Satsang events and regular days.
Following a high-level meeting between Dera Radha Soami Satsang representatives and senior Northern Railways officials, S. Ravneet Singh Bittu, Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, assured that Beas station, which is being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, will be upgraded to world-class standards with comprehensive civic amenities.
Minister Bite emphasized the importance of accommodating the large number of RSSB followers, noting that Beas station currently handles 30,000 to 40,000 travelers during peak Satsang seasons and 6,000 on regular days. With future Satsang events expected to draw up to 70,000 travelers, the Minister directed officials to incorporate suggestions from the Dera management into the station’s design before finalizing and floating the tender.
Key recommendations from the Dera delegation included the addition of two more platforms to the existing two, direct access from the Dera side to the station through a circulating area, and an expansion of the proposed roof plaza from 24 to 36 meters. The delegation also proposed surface parking instead of a multi-level facility to accommodate more vehicles and the relocation of freight handling to an adjacent station, making Beas a purely passenger terminal.
Senior officials attending the meeting included Shobham Chaudhary, General Manager of Northern Railways, and Vijay Pratap Singh, Principal Chief Engineer of Northern Railways. The Dera delegation was led by D. K. Sikri, RSSB Secretary, and included Gurwinder Singh, Zonal Secretary, Ms. Seema Dhir, Railway In-charge, Air Marshal (Retd) V. M. Khanna, and R. K. Gupta, Chief Engineer.
