New Delhi: Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil on Wednesday launched the ninth edition of India International Water Week (IIWW-2026), marking the beginning of preparations for one of the country’s largest global water events.

The five-day conference is scheduled to take place from September 22 to 26, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event will revolve around the theme of climate-resilient water management, aiming to address global water challenges through collaboration and innovation.
During the launch event held at Shram Shakti Bhavan, the minister released the official brochure and activated the event’s online portal for registrations. Senior officials from multiple departments related to water resources, sanitation, and river development were present on the occasion.

Highlighting the significance of water conservation, Patil emphasised that sustainable water practices are essential for achieving India’s long-term development goals. He referred to the nationwide push for water conservation and noted that millions of water recharge and conservation structures have already been developed, with further expansion targets set for the coming months.
The upcoming international event is expected to witness participation from around 150 countries, with several nations likely to join as official partners. Representatives from central ministries, state governments, and global organisations have also been invited to contribute.
The conference will feature multiple high-level discussions, forums, and thematic sessions covering areas such as water governance, climate risks, sustainable resource management, technological innovations, and financing models in the water sector.
A large-scale exhibition will also be organised alongside the conference to showcase advancements, projects, and opportunities in the water industry. The final day will include field visits to provide participants with on-ground exposure.
In addition, a dedicated international conference on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) will be held as part of the broader event, bringing together experts and stakeholders to address sector-specific challenges.
Officials said the platform is designed to encourage knowledge exchange, partnerships, and actionable solutions for water security at both national and global levels.
