New Delhi, June 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia assistance of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of those who lost their lives in a tragic accident in Maharashtra’s Solapur district. He also announced financial assistance of ₹50,000 for those injured in the incident.
The accident took place in Tandulwadi village of Malshiras taluka, where a jeep carrying devotees fell into a well located on private farmland. The tragic incident resulted in the death of eight people, while seven others were rescued and are undergoing treatment.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. The government stated that the compensation would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased victim, while financial support would be extended to the injured.
The victims of the accident were identified as Indubai Dashrath Bavche, Pooja Amol Satore, Pooja Balaji Bavche, Ashwini Sandip Bavche, Sanskar Sandip Bavche, Sanskruti Sandip Bavche, Aarav Amol Satore and Samarth Balaji Bavche.
The District Disaster Management Authority in Solapur confirmed that the accident claimed the lives of eight devotees. Rescue teams and local authorities immediately reached the site and launched operations to save those trapped inside the vehicle.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over the incident and paid tribute to the victims. He said the accident was extremely painful and assured that the state government would stand with the affected families during this difficult time.
The Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh from the Maharashtra government for the families of the deceased. He added that the injured survivors were receiving medical treatment and that district officials had been instructed to ensure all possible assistance.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for greater safety measures, especially in rural areas where roads, vehicles and infrastructure often pose additional risks. Officials are expected to conduct a detailed inquiry to understand the circumstances that led to the accident and identify measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
